There's no way I'd survive mid-day baby walks without Sparrow Sleeps. Thank you.
As I’ve said a few times now, being a parent is hard. This isn’t groundbreaking - I think everyone who is a parent has told me this at some point in my life, like some way to gatekeep this cool club by reminding you “it’s too hard”.
But, like, it’s fucking hard.
I’ve also learned that my biggest irritant with parenting isn’t the poop or the eating or the mess. It’s the screaming. I have about a 30-minute tolerance for screaming and then I just start crying. Besides eating (because this kid is ALWAYS hungry), one of the few things that calms him down is noise. This is either “Lawnmower Sounds | 10 hours” on Youtube, or music by the incomparable Sparrow Sleeps.
If you’re a former-emo-kid-turned-parent, you need to know Sparrow Sleeps. Casey and Peter, two elder-emos, make up Sparrow Sleeps. According to their website:
Simply put, Sparrow Sleeps crafts lullaby renditions of your favorite songs. The Sparrow Sleeps team is two midwestern guys with pop-punk fueled hearts and a shared passion for creating businesses around the things they love to do.
The two met sometime around 2008 through mutual friends in the Indianapolis music scene. Years later Casey, somewhat accidentally, started Sparrow Sleeps shortly after his daughter Sparrow was born. He created a handful of lullabies for Sparrow and also shared them with the Internet. Sparrow Sleeps was born. Around the same time, the guys were collaborating on promo materials for Casey's other company and they began talks of working on Sparrow Sleeps together as well. Fast forward to the end of 2014 and it was official; the duo decided to bring Sparrow Sleeps to the masses.

I’d encourage you to check out their massive catalog of cover albums, but I’ll feature some of Theo’s highlights below. Either way, I can’t thank Sparrow Sleeps enough for helping my kid fall asleep, and giving me something pretty decent to listen to.
And if you don’t have kids, they’ve made some lofi cover albums for focus as well! Right now I think it’s just Fall Out Boy (“Take This To Your Grades”) and My Chemical Romance (“The Backpack Parade”), but they’re definitely worth it!
